Spray or Paint on Protection For Shower and Bath Surfaces
Skudo Tub Protect is a custom-blended, liquid, peelable protective coating designed to safeguard acrylic, ceramic, porcelain, and cast-iron bathtubs from construction wear and tear before and during the installation process.
Applied with a roller or airless sprayer, the liquid tub protection dries to form a durable, protective barrier that stays firmly in place. Once the project is complete, simply peel it away, leaving the surface clean and damage-free.
With up to twelve months of protection, Skudo Tub Protect is ideal for residential, multifamily, and hospitality projects. The bathtub protector is also effective for safeguarding tubs and shower pans during transport, ensuring bath fixtures arrive at the jobsite in pristine condition.
Ideal Suitability for Most Common Bath Surfaces
Skudo Tub Protect can be applied on most common bath surfaces, such as Acrylic, Porcelain, Fiberglass, Stone Resin/Composite. Tub protection during construction can be left in place for up to 12 months.
Limitations
Film thickness is critical. Insufficient film thickness or overspray can reduce protection and make removal difficult.
Skudo Tub Protect Application Guide
How to Apply
Skudo Tub Protect is unique in that it can be applied prior to installation and remains intact throughout the water-test phase of the tub install. It is formulated from post-consumer, recyclable resin and is safe for use on most common bathtub surfaces*.
*Always consult your representative to confirm suitability for your specific tub or shower pan.
Roller Application
- Apply using a ¾” nap roller.
- A minimum of two heavy coats is required to ensure proper performance and removability.
- Recommended nominal film thickness: 12–16 mil.
- Apply the heaviest coat to the base of the bathtub, where impact and abrasion are greatest.
Spray Application
- Apply with an airless spray gun using a 321 or 325 tip at 1500–2000 psi. (Skudo Tub Protect is a viscous material and controlling the pressure and tip size will help control the overspray).
- Tape off drains, overflows, and any mechanical components that should not be coated.
- Avoid overspray, as it will result in low film build and can cause removal issues.
- Minimum film thickness: 12–16 mil.
Curing & Performance
- Film thickness is critical. Insufficient film thickness or overspray can reduce protection and make removal difficult.
- Skudo Tub Protect is a water-based product; curing occurs as water evaporates.
- Drying time depends on ambient conditions. Warm, dry environments with airflow and low humidity accelerate curing.
- Ensure the coating is fully cured before filling the tub with water.
- Recommended protection duration: Up to 12 months.
