Boston Logan Airport Terminal E Modernization

Surface Type: Terrazzo

Proyect Type: Airport

Contractor: Suffolk Construction

Location: Boston, MA

Suffolk Construction used a powerful combination of SkudoBoard (Fabric Back) and SkudoBoard Column Guard to protect terrazzo flooring and concrete columns during the large-scale modernization project at Boston Logan Airport Terminal E.

SkudoBoard (Fabric Back) covered the terrazzo flooring of the existing terminal, holding strong underneath the construction site traffic, building materials, scissor lifts, and storage bins. SkudoBoard Column Guard was wrapped around the tall architectural columns to ensure they were not damaged by debris and movement on the jobsite.

In addition to normal jobsite conditions, SkudoBoard also protected the flooring during a large press conference in September 2022 with US President Joe Biden at the project regarding the infrastructure bill. Suffolk prepared for four days ahead of the event, which hosted over 200 people on the site.

Upon completion of the project, Terminal E (the international terminal) will expand by 400,000 sq. ft. and include seven new gates. The current checkpoint, ticketing lobby, baggage claim, and Immigration & Naturalization Service Hall will also undergo extensive renovation and reconfiguration.
