A report by insurance giant Zurich Services Corporation identifies water damage as the leading cause of losses during construction. Weather and plumbing errors account for nearly half of losses the insurer recorded from 2010 to 2014 according to the severity of damage. “Much of that damage occurs to floors,” says Stan Campbell, Skudo Expert with Edmonton-based Pro-Tem Solutions Ltd. “When you add grit, chemical, equipment and ultraviolet light damage to the total, damaged floors are costing contractors plenty. That takes the form of the time and materials required to repair damage, impaired reputation, insurance deductibles and project delays.”
